Kenneth Opiyo Odhiambo

Dr. Kenneth Opiyo Odhiambo holds a PhD in Entomology from University of Eldoret (Kenya) (2013), and M.Phil. degree in Forestry (Tropical Forest Biology and Silviculture) and BSc. (Forestry), both from Moi University, Kenya (2003; 1994). He is a former grantee of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS) and a former Journal Editor (Kenyan Forestry) of the Forestry Society of Kenya (FSK). He is the current Chairperson, FSK-Scientific and Technical Committee.  Dr. Odhiambo has 21 years of experience (15 years full-time; 6 years part-time) in University level teaching, supervision, research and outreach activities. He has 13 years of experience since becoming Lecture in 2012. He is an expert in Tropical Forest biology and Silviculture with a bias to Forest Health, Agroecology, Plant-Insect Interactions, and Biodiversity Conservation, Monitoring & Evaluation. He has recommended cultural control and IPM strategy against Eucalyptus gall wasp, Leptocybe invasa. He is currently a Lecturer of Tropical Forest Biology and Silviculture at the Department of Forestry and Wood Science, School of Environmental Science and Natural Resource Management, University of Eldoret (Kenya) and has the following publications since becoming a Lecturer: 11 articles in refereed journals, 5 conference proceedings and one (1) international-level book chapter. Dr. Odhiambo is among the University staff who are currently implementing climate-change related projects, including a MasterCard Foundation funded TAGDev 2.0 project focusing on landscape greening for dairy value chain in Kenya, and another one on “Climate-Smart Labour-Saving Agrotechnologies for Increased Resilience of Women in Dryland Kenya”, an initiative of Gates Foundation. Additionally, He is involved in Community Development as the current Chairperson, Forest Conservation Committee (FCC) – Nyanza Conservancy of the Kenya Forest Service (KFS). His key values are integrity, commitment, teamwork and innovativeness. He brings on board the following to the University of Eldoret (UoE): support to quality undergraduate and postgraduate training and timely completion by students undertaking studies in Forestry and Allied disciplines; collaborative action research proposals development and projects implementation; Outreach and Community Engagement initiatives; and last but not least, a positive, trustworthy, dependable and reliable image and name of the University of Eldoret.
